Why this check is not optional

ASIC is unambiguous on its own consumer page: “if a financial adviser is not on the register, it means they cannot legally provide you personal advice on investments, superannuation and life insurance”.

So the first question is simply whether the person exists on this register — and the second, which the register answers and nothing lists, is whether their authorisation is still current. 64.2% of the advisers here have no current appointment.

Who actually stands behind your adviser

An adviser does not hold a licence. They are authorised by a licensee, and that licensee is itself controlled by other entities — often a bank or a listed group whose name never appears on the business card.

This register carries that chain, and this site follows it: 4,081 licensees, and for each of them the entities ASIC records as controlling it.

The two things the register records against an adviser

Both are facts the register publishes. Neither is a judgement, and this site adds none — read the entry at ASIC before drawing a conclusion.

Looking for financial advice?

Being on this register is the legal minimum to give personal advice — it is not a recommendation, and this site makes none. Tell us roughly what you need and where you are, and we will put the enquiry in front of advisers who are currently authorised. We give no advice ourselves, hold no product, and take no commission.

We read every message ourselves. Your email is used to reply and to pass the enquiry on, and nothing else — see the privacy page.
